maf stands for mid-autumn festival. and in hc, it seems to be quite an important event of the year. so, i went back to school on 10 Sept (in the evening of course) to celebrate this festival. celebrating mid-autumn becomes like a yearly thing to me cos last time in ny, we also celebrate. both hc and ny are schools with strong chinese culture, that's why we still celebrate maf. i bet ac won't celebrate rite? ok, so the celebrations kicked off with a variety of performances (dance, orchestra, wushu, songs etc) but we were like watching from so far away and so high up, they weren't very appealing and we couldn't see much anyway. everything was free n easy, u can come and go anytime u want when i first reached at 6:30, there wasn't too many ppl yet. but as it grew dark, u see the crowd. the best part abt hc's celebration is the grand light up. days before, we already see the councillors hard at work, fixing the bulbs and bringing up the set up. we also have this fire thingy, something like during ac orientation time (u know, they burn something up?) it was a star shape (quite a big one) for the grand light up, above our heads and u can see the real moon behind (it wasn't round yet though). quite a pretty sight, i think. but i was also quite disappointed cos there didn't seem to be any mooncakes around. in ny last time, each class had to donate mooncakes and drinks, which everyone will enjoy on celebration night itself, but not in hc...sign, how can there be no mooncake for maf???
